Molten Silver

Any items of delicate silver jewelry making. It all starts with melting silver . Put the broken silver in the little crucible, Use a welding torch to heat the broken silver in the crucible, While heating, add a little borax, Borax will dissolve the oxides on the surface of the silver, Makes silver purer and helps silver melt quickly. Borax should be added in multiple portions. The melting point of silver is 960°C,When the silver in the crucible is heated to a high temperature above 960°C, the silver begins to melt. The melted silver is made into silver flakes for later use.

Press the silver flakes

Flatten the melted silver material with a hammer and put it into tablet press machine for tableting. The tableting process should be repeated, and thinner time by time, Finally, the silver material is pressed into a silver flakes with a thickness of about 2mm, and then cut the silver flakes into width of 1cm rectangle.

Annealing

Annealing treatment for silver flakes which is pressed well, with welding torch silver material made by melting silver heated slowly to a certain temperature and ensure enough time to remove the rigidity of the silver itself, The purpose is to improve the plasticity and toughness of the silver material, so that the chemical composition of the silver material is uniform.

Burnishing

Put the cooled ring on the ring iron, Hit the ring with a hammer to make it more round. After grinding the inside of the ring with a hanging mill.

Boiled Silver

Put the welded ring in water with alum to start process of boiling silver. Alum has strong adsorption and will not chemically react with silver,can wash away impurities and make silverware appear looks more white. and it also can dissolve borax used in welding to improve the purity of jewelry. Take out the silver-white ring, and use the hanging mill to polish the surface for the second time. Then, we need use silver wire, which is made by drawing silver bars to make some decoration for this ring.

Wire Drawing

Take a thinner silver bullion and file more thinner one end of the silver bullion with a file. Take out the wire drawing board, which is the main purpose is to draw silver wire. Put the burnished end of thesilver bullion into the lower end of the wire drawing board. Hold the silver bullion with pliers at the upper end of the wire drawing board, then pull it out. The diameter of the round holes on the wire drawing board is decreases in turn. The drawn wire is thin and well-proportioned.  we need to repeatedly draw the wire on the holes with different diameters if we want to pull out the silver wire which we required.

Polishing
